We became involved in German Wirehaired Pointers about 20 years ago. Our original breed was Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. I was living in Kentucky and enjoyed goose and duck hunting. My first CBR was an obedience dog thatI titled quickly. On a trip to VA, I met Betsy Humer and Meghan Conner (now Timmerman). They had just done a breeding of the great CH. Fitzhugh’s Bag the Limit to Ch. Eastern Waters Crystal Coast. A puppy from that litter would be come my first real show dog and hunting companion. As time progressed I became more interested in Upland Hunting and being more active in the show ring. While attending the Chicago shows, Chesapeake’s were benched beside the German Wirehaired Pointers. After 4 days of interacting with the dogs and meeting my now close friend Helen George (now Witt) I was hooked. I was on a waiting list for a puppy, and as fate would have it shortly after I moved back to VA, I went to visit Howard and Heidi Huber, who co-owned my current Chesapeake, I looked in their kennel and there stood a German Wirehaired Pointer. When I asked about her, they said they had purchased her from Helen to be their son's Juniors dog.
This bitch was Ch. Ripsnorter’s Lightning Strike, Annie. Annie was bred the next winter and produced my first GWP, Outlaw. Annie came to live with me a year or so later and the rest is history.

At age 10 Kelly qualified for Westminster using Outlaw. She went on to show him for several years in Juniors before switching to a younger GWP. She was a consistent winner of the Best Junior title at GWPCA Nationals. Kelly has become a fixture in the GWP breed ring. She has traveled across the United States to Specialties and Nationals. As we bred litters, Kelly has shown many of the young dogs; consistently in the ribbons at Specialties, Nationals and at the All Breed Shows.
As a junior handler Kelly was given the opportunity to show a Basenji while she was working with Jane and Greg Myers in Florida for the summer. As Rosie started to show her age, we were very fortunate to become involved with Damara Bolte and Jane Lodge of Reveille Kennel. In 2004 we became the owners of a Basenji puppy Harriett, Ch. Reveille Enchanted Passport. She finished quickly and we fell in love with the breed. In 2006, the opportunity came to get a male puppy, his name Ch. Reveille Push The Limit To MV. We knew Ramses was a “special” boy. He finished quickly and Kelly traveled to the BCOA National in California in 2007 to show him. He was competitive every day and Kelly was thrilled to go Best of Opposite Sex at one of the shows. A year later Kelly traveled to the South Fork Ranch in TX. At the BCOA National September 2008, Kelly and Ramses were awarded Best of Breed by judge Jon Curby. While we are new to Basenjis we look forward to our continued involvement in the breed.
